Bridgetown, Barbados (May 30, 2009) - Alison Hinds Performance at the Jerk Festival, West Palm Beach Florida

On May 25, 2009, Alison Hinds was contracted to perform for the Jerk festival in West Palm, Florida. Alison and her band arrived in West Palm and stayed at the Marriot expecting to perform at 7pm on May 25th. She was at the Marriot Beach Hotel in her room waiting for the promoter to fulfill their contractual agreement.
The promoter, Damian Tatter, was supposed to come to the hotel with her balance of the $$$ due and transportation to the event. The promoter never showed up with the $$$ and after several calls by her manger to him he said that he could not come because of his onsite obligations and it did not make sense for her to perform since many people were leaving.
She was aware that many of her fans had come out to see her perform at the Jerk Festival despite weather conditions. When push came to shove, the show’s promoters never came up with the balance due and said that they could not pay her because of the bad weather conditions. To make matters worse, the promoters chose the cowardly way out and have attacked Alison Hinds’ credibility by saying that she was not there.
“I am deeply saddened that I did not have the opportunity to perform for my fans especially to those who stood out in the rain and waited for me. People need to know that I will not be taken advantage in such a way. I will keep everyone posted as to what becomes of this situation. "

Mike Tyon’s 4 year old daughter Exodus has reportedly died from an accident involving a treadmill machine.
As reported early this morning, Exodus’ 7 year old brother found her wrapped in a cord from the machine in the family’s home. Her mother tried to revive her with CPR and Mike was out of town at the time.

She was on life support and in critical condition. And she has reportedly died from the injury.

“The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time,” the boxer said in a statement.

This is truly sad- just makes you realize how preciouse life is. R.I.P. and prayers to her family and friends.

So Island Records is celebrating 50 Years in the biz and Amy Winehouse went and cancelled on them. The anniversary bash is scheduled for May 31st. Not only that she is not performing at Quincy Jones tribute bash either.

This news comes after a disastrous performance atSt Lucia Jazz Festival where, according to her folks, she ended her performace prematurely due to bad weather. Many are saying though her comeback gig was doomed (she forgot her lyrics and her voice was not up to par) and she was even booed by patrons.

So she met Quincy at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party in Hyde Park last summer where he invited her and Mark Ronson to record a song for a tribute album to himself.

Drunken stupors on the island are all the rage for Winehouse. I think she needs some intervention.

It's been months, and still no song. Apparently what there is of it, is great material, but this girl just can't seem to complete anything. Same for her album she is working on in St. Lucia. So far she has 18 tracks but all are incomplete.

Had the song for Quincy been completed she would have joined Michael Jackon (some of his biggest hits were produced byJones) at the launch of the CD.

Side note: she is allegedlly being followed for Saving Amy—what promises to be a particularly raw documentary from interviewer Daphne Barak, which will be released later this year.

REGGAE SUMFEST, which is said to be the world’s greatest showcase of reggae music, will take place from July 19-25 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The top acts in reggae and dancehall music who are expected to take centre stage and so far are Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Spice, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Inner Cicrle, Mavado, Tarrus Riley, Kip Rich, Demarco, Etana, Morgan Heritage, Voice Mail, Busy Signal, Da’Ville, Coco Tea, Black Rhino, Rhaatid and Dub Tonic Kru.

According to a press release, the organisers are working around the clock to bring patrons the hottest Reggae Sumfest and would keep adding artistes to the lineup gradually.

Organisers are still negotiating with the inclusion of international American acts; however, past performances had included Mary J Blige, LL Cool J, Rihanna, 50-cent and G-Unit and Missy Elliott.

Recently, Summerfest Productions, organisers of the event, won an award at this year’s International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) as Promoter of the Year.

“This is evidence that we’re doing something right with Reggae Sumfest,” Johnny Gourzong, the executive director of Summerfest Promotions, said in a press release after collecting the award in New York.

Gourzong, who collected the same award in 2008 in addition to the award for Concert of the Year, said the trophy serves as extra motivation to provide entertainment value like Jamaica has never seen.

“I’m excited about this award, and after this year’s Sumfest we will prove for the 17th consecutive year that we are the greatest reggae show on earth,” Gourzong commented.

This year will be the 17th staging of the Jamaica Reggae Sumfest.

It was like a scene out of the Next Top Model series. Just under 100 Jamaican models showing up for a casting for one of the few coveted spots on an upcoming charity fashion show. The venue was the Hilton Kingston Hotel on Saturday as hopefuls strutted their stuff for LA-based fashion show producer and model coach, Michael Maddox.

All were seeking an opportunity to walk the runway at the fashion event which forms part of the Caribbean Classic Celebrity Golf Invitation which will be held in Montego Bay from June 24-28.

From Jamaica Observer:

Veteran Dancehall artiste Shabba Ranks who hasn't had a hit in many moons might just be on the verge of scoring an international hit. He is featured on French record producer, remixer and house music DJ Bob Sinclar's latest single "Love You No More".

The song has been released on Sinclair's Yellow Productions label. In 2005 Sinclair scored a hit with the single "Love Generation," which reached #1 on the Australian ARIA Singles Charts and the German Media Control Single Charts in 2006. The song was a huge success throughout Europe, also peaking at number two in the Dutch Top 40. It featured the vocals of Jamaican singer Gary Pine. Pine had replaced Bob Marley as lead singer of the Wailers.

The follow-up hit was "World, Hold On," which featured Steve Edwards and also managed to chart in the top ten in most European countries. "Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)" was another big hit in Europe and it featured Jamaican deejay Dollar Man.

Shabba, who jockeyed a string of hits atop several mainstream charts in the 1990s, has over the years collaborated with a slew of heavyweights on the American and international music scenes. In 1991 he was featured on the Top 20 UK hit a remake of "She's a Woman" by Scritti Polliti. He later teamed up with US R&B singer Johnny Gill for the Top 10 R&B hit "Slow and Sexy." Later on he recorded hits with rappers KRS-One and Queen Latifah, actor-turned-singer Eddie Murphy and R&B singers Terri and Monica.
