Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh” remix featuring female Brooklyn rapper Nicki Minaj, has been nominated for an award by the popular MTV2 cable network channel. MTV2’s Sucker Free Summit premieres on July 25, with its goal being for ‘tastemakers’ from the web, radio, television and print to vote on the best in hip hop music, while celebrity panelists openly debate about the artistes in various category. The “Hold Yuh” remix has been nominated for “Remix of the year”.

Jamaican acts Sean Paul, Sean Kingston and Alicia Keys as well as Bajan-born Rihanna and Leona Lewis who is of Guyanese heritage (technically so is Rihanna as her mom is Guyanese) are up for awards in various categories for this years MTV Japan's Video Music Awards (VMA's).

Of course in every category there are Japanese nominees. It is interesting that to date the Reggae category (which was introduced in 2006) has only been won by Japanese artists. apart from Sean Paul (nominated in 2006 for We Be Burnin, in 2007 for Temperature) and Kingston (nominated in 2008 for Beautiful Girls) only 2 other Jamaican aritsts have been nominated in this category. Mavado in 2008 with his song "Dreaming" and Kardinall Offishall (who was born in Canada to Jamaican parents) with "Dangerous" (his duo with Akon) in 2009.
The show will be held on May 29th.
