NEW YORK, United States — Christopher 'Dudus' Coke has pleaded not guilty to US charges he ran a massive drug ring from Kingston.

Coke entered the plea Friday in federal court in Manhattan today.

The 42-year-old alleged boss of the Shower Posse gang was sent to New York yesterday under tight security after waiving his right to an extradition hearing. His case had sparked street violence in Kingston that left more than 70 dead.

US prosecutors say Coke conspired to distribute cocaine and marijuana throughout the eastern United States for more than 15 years. They say drug dealers gave him 'tribute payments' in the form of electronics, clothing and firearms.

He faces a possible life term if convicted.

Jamaican Dancehall artist Beenie Man was granted bail today after being charged with assault resulting in bodily harm, after allegedly assaulting fellow entertainer LA Lewis. Beenie Man along with selector Rolexx were charged and given bail set at $100,000.

The sad thing is this happened right after the funeral of Oneil Edwards on Saturday. Sources say Lewis was driving with his head out the vehicle window, and ran into Beenie's Audi Q7. Now anyone who knows of or has ever met L.A Lewis know he is full of chat, and that supposedly is what he did after hitting the car. Beenie got out of his vehicle and physically assaulted him...

Please people...no matter how irritating someone can get...don't assault them...especially public figures-let your people deal with his people.

Beenie left on a 22-city European Tour this week.

The deejay is to embark on a 22-show European tour which will kick off in Paris. He is set to leave the island today.

According to an AP report in USA today officials in Lima Peru will soon charge Joran van der Sloot, the Dutchman suspected in the 2005 disappearance of an American teen in Aruba, with the killing a young Peruvian woman in his Lima hotel room.

Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra, told reporters that van der Sloot admitted under questioning Monday that he killed Stephany Flores, 21, on May 30.

Seems he left her to get some coffee and got pissed that she went in his computer and looked up pics and docs on his Aruba case. He came back, and got in such a rage that he grabbed her by the neck and hit her, police speculate with a tennis racket found in the hotel room.

According to the paper, Flores was found beaten to death, her neck broken, in the 22-year-old Dutchman's hotel room. Police said the two met playing poker at a casino.

Van der Sloot remains the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, then 18, on the Caribbean resort island of Aruba, where she was celebrating her high school graduation.

The 6-foot-3-tall van der Sloot had been held at Peruvian criminal police headquarters since arriving Saturday in a police convoy from Chile, where he was captured on Thursday

Buju Banton was scheduled to be in court on June 21st but US District Judge James Moody changed the date to September, and to date the reason is unclear. This is the second time since his December 2009 arrest that his trial date has been changed. The initial trial date was April 21st 2010.

David Oscar Markus, Buju's attorney, has filed an objection, saying the change violates the federal Speedy Trial Act. This law requires that a criminal defendant’s trial start within 70 days of him being charged or makes an initial appearance, whichever is later. Mr. Markus also requested a hearing on this matter for next Thursday, June 3, 2010 and is awaiting the Court’s response.

T.I's first interview since coming out of jail was with Larry King. I enjoyed it and wanted to share a clip. I know he is not from the islands but I am sure he has many fans in the region. I like the fact that he held his own with Larry King, he spoke clearly and eloquently and it was just very relaxed and quite informative.

Bounty Killer, whose real name is Rodney Pryce, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and threatening a complainant on Monday at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court, where he was also denied bail.

He is also facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful wounding after an altercation with an off-duty cop in New Kingston in 2007.

The artist was refused bail by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey on the grounds that it he committed the new offenses while out on bail.

Police say the 38-year-old DJ was arrested at his East Avenue home early Monday morning after a woman complained that he physically attacked her after she informed him that their three-year relationship was over.

While being processed at the Constant Spring Police Station, Pryce reportedly called the complainant and threatened her life in the presence of the police.

A police investigator told the court that associates of the DJ had been pressuring the woman to drop the charges against him.

Pryce is one of several artists whose visas were revoked by the United States embassy last week.

Buju just can't catch a break huh??? After sitting in jail since December 2009 and expecting to go to court in March then having the date switched to April 12th, then to April 19th, he is now facing another delay. His court date has been pushed a further two months away, and his lawyers are understandably upset.

However in an order released yesterday, the US District Court in the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division, announced a reschedule of his trial on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of a firearm, will now start on Monday, June 21.

The court also announced that a status conference is to be held on Thursday, June 3, at the US Sam Gibbons Courthouse in Tampa, Florida. His lawyers filed a motion for a status conference to discuss the trial date.

Buju’s attorney, David Markus argued that the court rescheduled the trial at a disadvantage to Buju. Witnesses from outside the state of FL have bought plane tickets and booked hotels based on the April 19th date.

The defense team is willing to have the case transferred to a different judge if it means an earlier start of the trial.

You can keep up with updates from Camp Buju by visiting his official trial coverage site you can even read motions filed by his lawyer such as the one for Bond or for alternative relief. which was filed after he was put in max for sharing food with another inmate.

According to CaribWorldNews, Buju Banton's Lawyers want him moved out of the Pinellas County Jail where he has been since December.

The attorney for jailed reggae singer, Buju Banton, is requesting an emergency motion to have his client moved out of the current jail facilities.
Attorney David Markus is set to make his case at a hearing set for 10 a.m. Friday, March 27th and is basing his request on dietary concerns.

According to the St. Pete Times, Markus claims the singer, has not been provided with the vegetarian diet according to his Rasta faith and as such, has lost 40 pounds so far.

The request comes just days after Banton, born Mark Myrie, was moved from jail`s general population area on March 18th, to a higher security section as a punishment for giving his food to another inmate, according to the motion.

`The inmate handbook says you are not to be trading food or handing out food,` Pinellas County Sheriff`s Office spokesman Sgt. Tom Nestor, was quoted by the Times as saying. `Food is considered currency.`

But, Markus argues that since the move, the Grammy-nominated reggae singer`s `physical and mental health has been rapidly deteriorating.`

Banton has been charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine. He is accused of participating with two associates in a drug deal in early December to buy cocaine from undercover federal agents in Sarasota.

A jilted lover who stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death after seeing pictures of her with another man on Facebook was jailed for life yesterday and told that he must spend at least 22 years in prison.

Paul Bristol, 25, was “determined no other man should replace him” and flew 4,000 miles from his home in Trinidad to confront chartered accountant Camilla Mathurasingh at her London home.

Within 24 hours of his arrival in England in April last year, Ms Mathurasingh was dead. Bristol attacked her in her kitchen, stabbing her 20 times as she desperately tried to escape by climbing over her garden fence.

Bristol, who denied murder but admitted manslaughter on the basis of provocation, left her for dead and drove off in her car, crashing into a junction.

When police arrived at the scene he told them: “I’m bad. I have just tried to kill someone. You have to arrest me, here put the handcuffs on me. I stabbed my girlfriend, then I stabbed myself. We had an argument. I’m a bad man, I’m a murderer.”

Judge Timothy Pontius jailed Bristol for life at the Old Bailey and ordered that he serve a minimum of 22 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

He said: “It is absolutely clear you were eaten up by jealousy at the time, having found out about Camille’s relationship with Besim Haxhia.

“You couldn’t bring yourself to accept she was not only living and working thousands of miles away but her life had moved on and the relationship the two of you previously had was at an end.

“You were determined that no other man should replace you in her life, and you decided to bring that young life to an end.

“You attacked her with such repeated savagery and horrifying ferocity that it was your intention to kill her.

“There was simply no provocative conduct by Camille Mathurasingh. Any injury you suffered at her hands only arose as she frantically and desperately fought for her life.”

The judge added: “Camille Mathurasingh was a highly intelligent and ambitious young woman, beautiful and vivacious, caring and loving as a daughter, sister and friend.

“Her death has left a huge and permanent void in the lives of a thoroughly decent family to whom I pay particular tribute for the highly restrained way they have sat quietly through the greater part of the trial.”

Ms Mathurasingh was born in Trinidad but came to live in Britain with her family in 1990, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2005. She returned to Trinidad for a holiday where she met Bristol and ended up taking a job as an auditor with PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

In 2008 she returned to the UK and moved in with her sister in Bromley-by-Bow, East London. She kept in touch with Bristol, who constantly checked her Facebook page to see what she was up to without him.

Singjay Buju Banton will be a no-show at the Grammy awards to be held at the LA's Staples Center on January 31, as he is being be held without bail on drug charges.

According to a report made by the Tampa Tribune, Banton pleaded not guilty in court yesterday, to federal charges that he conspired to buy cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Miami.

The report said that US Magistrate Anthony Porcelli ordered the singer held without bail after defence attorney David Oscar Markus said he would not oppose the government's request that Banton be detained.

Markus later explained that there was no sense in seeking bail when immigration authorities have placed a detainer on Banton, who is in the United States on an entertainer visa. Markus said he will fight to have the detainer lifted and then seek bail on the criminal charges. He told reporters his client will fight the charges and will not enter into any plea deal with prosecutors.

"We will be going to trial," Markus was quoted as saying. He also added, "He did not commit the crimes he's charged with. He was not in any conspiracy."

Markus also decried the immigration detainer, saying, "There should be a presumption of innocence. Instead there is a presumption of guilt in immigration." He said there is 'no question' his client would be allowed to post bail if not for the detainer.

The criminal case is set for a status conference in February and tentatively set for a March trial. Although cases often don't go to trial so quickly, Markus said he would push for the case to proceed swiftly.

Late last year it was announced that Banton was nominated for a Grammy in the 'Best Reggae Album' category, for his recently released Rasta Got Soul album.

Banton was arrested on December 8, after law-enforcement agents received information from an inside source alleging that the deejay and other persons were in Sarasotta seeking to purchase several kilograms of cocaine. It is further alleged that the singer agreed to meet with the unnamed inside source to conduct the deal and the incident was recorded. Reports continued that on December 10, Banton's co-defendants, Ian Thomas and James Mark, were arrested after they travelled to a facility where they allegedly presented a large quantity of money and were given a bag containing seven kilograms of cocaine. If convicted, Banton faces 20 years' imprisonment.

MIAMI(AP) — Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton is facing charges that he attempted along with others to buy a large quantity of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer.

A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration affidavit says Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, traveled to Sarasota last week to make the purchase along with two others. The DEA was tipped off by a confidential informant who agreed to wear a recording device during the drug negotiation session.

Talk about life imitating art. Here is Buju in a scene from the video of "Driver A"- telling the driver "I wan you carry dis round de road fi mi".

Banton, 36, faces a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine, which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence. Banton was being held at Miami's downtown detention center Monday pending transfer to Tampa, where the case is being prosecuted.

A bail hearing was set for Wednesday in Miami federal court. The attorney handling that for Banton didn't immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

According to the DEA affidavit, Banton contacted the confidential informant last Monday about a possible cocaine purchase. The next day, Banton and other men met with the informant at Sarasota's La Tropicana de Havana restaurant, where the DEA and local police had set up surveillance.

Banton allegedly arrived at the meeting in his silver Land Rover with the license plate "Jah One," according to the affidavit.

Eventually, the group went to a warehouse authorities had outfitted with audio and video recording devices to make the cocaine deal. An undercover police officer pulled out one brick of the 20-kilogram load, according to the DEA, and one of Banton's associate's sliced it open with a knife.

Banton, according to the affidavit, "instantly wiped the blade of that knife with his finger and placed that finger in his mouth in what appeared to be an attempt to taste the cocaine." After two more meetings at local restaurants between the informant and Banton's associates, authorities arrested the associates and then took Banton into custody Thursday in Miami.

The husky-voiced Banton has been a major star in his native Jamaica since the early 1990s with brash dancehall music and, more recently, a traditional reggae sound. His career has been stunted in the United States because of his attitude toward gays, including songs "Batty Rider" and "Boom Bye Bye" which glorify the shooting of gay men.

Jah Kno Starrrrrrr......this is just messed up man.

Mark Myrie better known as Buju Banton was arrested in Miami under posession charges. His been under a significant amount of pressure from gay rights advocates who most recenlty are asking for a boycott of his Reggae Album Grammy nomination.

According to The Miami Herald:

Buju Banton, the Jamaican reggae star whose anti-gay lyrics have drawn
international criticism, is in a federal lockup in Miami, facing drug conspiracy
charges.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents say Banton, real name Mark
Anthony Myrie, has been in custody since Thursday and will soon be transferred
to Tampa, where the U.S. Attorney is charging him with conspiracy to possess
with intent to distribute more than five kilos of cocaine.Banton has homes both in Jamaica and Tamarac.

While legions of dancehall reggae enthusiasts view Banton as one of the most prolific voices of Jamaica's poor masses, critics say he's a gay basher whose lyrics incite violence by calling for attacking and torturing homosexuals. His song Boom Bye Bye, a dance-hall hit released in the 1990s, advocates shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire.

As late as September, Banton's local management told The Miami Herald that the criticism of the star was unwarranted because he had stopped singing the song years ago. The song remains a hit among reggae DJs.Still, such lyrics have made Banton one of the more controversial reggae artists, with angry gay activists this fall forcing the cancellation of a string of concerts by the artists during a U.S.
tour that included a Halloween night concert in Miami.Recently the firestorm
ratched up after the Grammys announced that Baton's album Rasta Got Soul,
released earlier this year, was up for an award.Gay Men of African Descent
and the National Black Justice Coalition joined with the Gay & Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation in a petition drive protesting the nomination

Fcuk! Cocaine?????? I hope that is a conspiracy eh. Rasta don't smoke coke! I am not sure what this means for his career, but I am a HUGE Buju fan and I hope that he releases a statement soon. This is crazy....sheesh.

Yow..I must admit I was one of those 'media reports' posting info that Jah Cure was arrested in Trinidad. Now this is a lesson in not doing things in a rush eh. I usually would have comment and said my two cents (which of course in this case would have been that I hope this was wrong etc, afterall I am a fan) but shit I was in a rush so I just put the basics. Imagine today in my Communications class the topic was journalists and their code of ethics. Anyway long story short according to The Nation Newspaper (Barbados), his publicist explained the circumstances of Jah Cure's accompaniment by police to the local station. (See full article below)

JAH CURE'S PUBLICIST says he was never arrested, despite recent media
reports of the SoBeEntertainment/ Danger Zone recording artiste having a stint
in a Trinidad jail.
"Jah Cure's trip to Trinidad and Tobago was not without incident. On Saturday, November 7, while staying at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain, Jah Cure was greeted by police officers along with the promoter who claimed that Jah Cure owed him money," read the statement from his publicist Alykhat.
The promoter with whom Jah Cure had worked in the past was in
negotiations with the artiste for another performance but negotiations had
broken down, he added.
"In order to settle the matter, Jah Cure and members of his management team accompanied the promoter and the police to a nearby police station where the promoter's deposit was returned. "The artiste was not arrested as reported by some media outlets and was able to fulfil his confirmed date at Guaracara Park on the same night. Jah Cure performed to over 10 000 people."

Jah Cure is now home in Jamaica preparing for his upcoming
dates in St Kitts, Barbados and Grenada. (MS)

I am glad that this got taken care of. After his stint in prison, I think that is the last place Jah Cure would want to end up, without good cause anyway. Aight well that's it for now. As usual I will update with any changes, seen.
