The nominations for the 2010 BET awards were announced at the 230 Fifth Rooftop Garden Bar and Restaurant in New York City and celebs with Caribbean heritage are in almost all categories.




Alicia Keys and Melanie Fiona each have four nominations, followed by Rihanna with 3 nods. Nicki Minaj has two on her own, but added with her nominations as part of Young Money she has a total of five nods.

The 10th annual show will feature performances from Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Diddy-Dirty Money, who was on hand to announce the nominations, along with Oscar nominee Queen Latifah, who will serve as host.

The BET Awards 2010 will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 27, at 8 p.m. The nominees are listed below.

With his $1 million dollar investment, Usain Bolt is joining a roster of celebrities who securing thier financial futures through entrepreneurship. On Tuesday night Usain Bolt's Tracks and Records sports lounge was officially launched. This is a venture forged with Kingston Live Entertainment (KLE), the company behind Fiction Lounge-a club frequented by Bolt.

Usain Bolt's Tracks and Records will be located next to Fiction at Market Place and is scheduled to be opened in the last quarter of this year. The design will reflect that of a stadium and will boast a mezzanine, multiple bars and lounges, interactive booth seating and a retail shop carrying Bolt products.

The group hopes to make it a franchise and are looking at London next.

On Friday the official handing over ceremony of Usain Bolt’s Reugopol track by BSW Regupol Sports Floors took place at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus . The track is almost an exact replica of the one on which he broke the 100 meter record in Berlin last year and similar also to the 2008 Olympic track in Bejing where he catapulted to super stardom.

The blue and white eight-lane track is located to the north of the university's other main sporting facilities, namely, its four football fields, the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground, three tennis courts, a swimming pool and an indoor court. The university intends to create a Sporting Centre of Excellence, similar to that of the Australian Sports Academy.
The next phase of planned developments include a 6,000-seat mini-stadium with lighting, a football academy - in partnership with the Jamaica Football Federation - and a Caribbean Institute of Sports Medicine.

I must mention Captain Horace Burrell (Head of Jamaica's Football Federation) who arrived via helicopter in the middle of Professor Shirley's speech. That was entertaining to say the least. Usain's Coach gave a very entertaining speech. It was full of gratitude and sincerity but most of all light-hearted and filled with humour. One thing that was missing from the festivities, was recognition was not paid to the UWI Students who have been living next door to this construction zone. As a resident on Rex Nettleford Hall, it has not been easy dealing with all the dust, so a show of appreciation would have gone a long way. We do see the big picture though, and I am sure most if not all UWI students are happy for this addition.

Tongues of course are wagging. When you are in such a high profile position every one and their mama is gonna want to have a say in or about your affairs. Already Lava is being labeled a gold-digger etc, etc.... I heard she is originally Jamaican so what are people going to say now??? I don't know much about her but I am not a fan... I think more than her announcement on VH1 is her phone call to Entertainment Prime basically saying she was upset about the fact that Usain Googled her... I don't get that. Well as someone tried to explain to me her saying that they met at a party is a better story....Au contraire, if I was googled by someone who for whatever reason heard about me or saw something they liked, I would not be ashamed about it. In fact if we end up getting together it would make a great story for our kids:-)

Jamaica's remarkable track genius Usain Bolt has been named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the second straight time, after continuing his amazing blitz on sprinting in 2009 when he won three more gold medals at the World Championships.

US tennis star Serena Williams has won her second Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, seven years after her first, following Grand Slam victories in Australia and at Wimbledon. It was her third Laureus Award in total, after also winning the Laureus Comeback Award in 2007.

arperSport has acquired two books by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the three-time Olympic gold medallist.

Jonathan Taylor, publishing director of Harper NonFiction, bought world rights in a deal brokered with Bolt's representatives by Chris Nathaniel of NVA Management. The books were bought for an undisclosed sum.

Taylor said: "Welcoming Usain into the HarperSport fold is a huge thrill and a real privilege. He is the most iconic sports star on the planet and our global publishing plans for him are exciting and extensive."

The first book will be an illustrated title, due to be published in October 2010. Described as "an illustrative narrative celebration", it will look at Bolt's record breaking career to date, his Caribbean roots and what inspires and motivates him.

The second book will be a full-length autobiography, which will be published in autumn 2012, shortly after the Olympic Games in London.

Well I was watching the drama that was the For The Love of Ray J reunion on VH1 and one of the contestants, Lava announced that as of New Year this year she and Usain Bolt became "official" ......she was in Jamaica (see pic below) with him, and what not, what not....Jeeze and water crackers with guava jam???? Seriously?????

I didn't really follow the show till the end but if she is anything like what I have seen. It's just drama. Usain why yuh looking drama boy???? Good luck pardna.

The most recent recipient of the BBC’s Overseas Personality Award is Usain Bolt, who broke both the 100m and 200m world records at the Summer Olympics and broke them both again at the 2009 World Championships. He won this award last year as well.

The Overseas Personality Award was first presented in 1960, six years after the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award was introduced. The first recipient of the award was Australian middle distance runner Herb Elliott. Since then, the award has been presented to 47 sports persons. American boxer Muhammad Ali and Swiss tennis player Roger Federer have each won the award three times and Australian golfer Greg Norman has won the award twice. The award has been shared on three occasions-by Ron Clarke and Gary Player in 1965, Eusebio and Garfield Sobers in 1966, and Evander Holyfield and Michael Johnson in 1996. The husband and wife skating duo of Oleg Protopopov and Ludmila Belousova are the only pair to have won the award, doing so in 1968. Belousova was the first and oldest woman to become Overseas Personality. George Moore is the oldest recipient of the award, winning in 1967 at age 44. The youngest recipient of the award is Nadia Comaneci, who won in 1976 at age 16. Boris Becker was 18 when he won in 1985, making him the youngest recipient thus far. Twenty different countries have been represented by the award winners. United States has the most awards (19). The world’s fastest and his management team have announced that they will host a two day series of activities ending with a one-of-a-kind SuperParty, on December 5, 2009 at Richmond Estate in St Ann.
“We want to achieve several objectives”, said Norman Peart, Usain’s Manager, “Of course we want to celebrate Usain’s phenomenal 2009 achievements with his friends, family and fans, and we felt that nothing would better represent Usain but a party where he could mingle and have fun with everyone. Mavado has already celebrated this year in Hollywood Fl at Club Opium at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, he will have a party in Montego Bay on Nov. 28th with the final and major celebration on December 5th.

Mavado (David Constantine Brooks) was born November 30th 1981. Usain St. Leo Bolt was born August 21st, 1986.

The fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt was made a Maasai Moran yesterday at a brief ceremony at Segere Ranch in Laikipia where the Zeitz Foundation is establishing a conservation program.
A dozen Morans dressed Bolt in their traditional shuka and presented him with a stick before christening him Loilgwany, the warrior of warriors. It was only after this initiation that the Moran could allow themselves to dance in front of one of the most recognized athletes in the world.

Heavy rains in the area the previous night, made the airstrip at Segera treacherous, delaying Bolt’s arrival by a couple of hours. But the wait was worth it for the Morans who enthusiastically greeted Bolt and posed with him as he did his now famous victory salute.
One Moran said he wondered why people were telling Bolt, “welcome to Africa, since the origin of the human species was in Africa and Bolt, “was just returning home.”
Bolt has spent the last two days at Segera Ranch in Kenya. Bolt together with former 110m hurdle world record holder Colin Jackson are world ambassadors for the Zeitz Foundation which launched its Kenya program on Friday.

“I wrote my Maasai name somewhere,” he said and to prove that he was “one of them now” jumped up and down, the elevation impressive, as he simulated the well known dancing style of the tribe.
However, even for a man who on the track, strikes so much fear in his opponents, Bolt had to endure this same feeling while on a game drive early on Sunday morning.“We were even confronted by a bull elephant which came in front of our car. It was really scary. I thought he wanted to charge at us but all he wanted was for us to back off,” Bolt said. “The game drive was wonderful and I really enjoyed it. We will go for another one in the morning (Monday) because I did not see any lions or leopards.”

Here is why Usain Bolt Made Ask Men's List of the Top 49 Most Influential People of 2009.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt held on to his title as the fastest man on the planet, and comes in on our ranking as the second most influential man of 2009. At the World Championships this past August, the Jamaican sprinter beat the records he had set at the 2008 Olympics in both the 100- and 200-meter events, making him the first man to simultaneously retain the 100- and 200-meter Olympic and World titles.

Usain Bolt's phenomenal achievements on the track made him an obvious choice for the 2009 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, and the runner earned a number of prestigious honors from his native country as well. In September, Prime Minister of Jamaica Bruce Golding announced that the champion sprinter will receive the Order of Jamaica, making the soon-to-be titled Honorable Usain Bolt the youngest recipient ever of the Order.

The Jamaican government also appointed him ambassador-at-large, granting him full diplomatic status. Golding announced in parliament that Highway 2000, the Caribbean island's high-speed expressway, will be renamed in "Lightning" Bolt's honor. All eyes will remain on Usain Bolt in the months to come to see if the world's fastest individual has it in him to establish new sprinting records in 2010.

The roadway along which the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt crashed his car a few months ago will be renamed in his honour.

Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding told Parliament on Tuesday that Highway 2000 would be called the Usain Bolt Highway. The road connects the capital of Kingston in the east with Montego Bay in the far west of the country. Only three Jamaican prime ministers - Sir Alexander Bustamante, Norman Manley, Michael Manley have had highways named for them. Olympians Herb McKenley and Arthur Wint have also had roads named for them.

In Parliament Tuedsay, Prime Minister Golding said Bolt’s “endearing personality, charisma and passion for his country make him a superb ambassador of Jamaica.” He also announced that the country’s fourth highest honour – the Order of Jamaica, will be conferred on the 23-year-old sprinter. Bolt will become the youngest person to receive such award. Bolt will also be appointed an Ambassador-at-Large and will be accorded full diplomatic status. And he doesn't even think he is at his personal best. Say what? The world's fastest man, who won three record breaking gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last summer?

He once again broke records on Sunday's 150 metres race in Manchester with 14.35 sec, smashing the previous best-known time set by Canada's Donovan Bailey - 14.99sec run on bend against Michael Johnson in 1997.

2008 Olympic Sprint phenom Usain Bolt of Jamaica, has given a boost to the fund-raising efforts of the New York-based Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO), signing three pairs of sneakers which are to be auctioned. The sneakers, donated by Puma, are part of a limited edition produced in commemoration of Bolt’s world record of 9.72 seconds clocked at the Reebok Grand Prix in May 2008, just prior to his amazing performance in August 2008 in the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Gary Williams, Chairman of COJO, a 15-year old, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, education and general well being of underserved children, brought the shoes to Jamaica for signing.

He said that while the shoes were themselves already valuable, “Usain Bolt’s signature increased their value even more and the money realized from their sale will go a long way in funding projects in Jamaica.”

Over the past decade, the volunteer-driven COJO has supported a number of institutions in Jamaica as well as the United States. Among them are the Alpha Boys’ Home, Glenhope Place of Safety, Marigold Child Care Centre and the Musgrave Girls’ Home in Jamaica; and in New York, the Jamaica Queens YMCA and Leaf of Life.

Each year, the organization hosts a scholarship gala in New York to raise funds for scholarships to deserving students.

David Alexander Smith more popularly known as "Ice," was shot in the head and chest during an argument with two men who took his keys and fled in his rented Mitsubishi Lancer. Local sources indicate that the shooting took place at a bar on Newark Avenue, off Waltham Park Road in Kingston early yesterday morning.

36 year old Smith was a member of the Black Roses Crew based on Lincoln Road in Kingston and is the third leading member to be murdered. William "Willie Haggart" Moore was gunned down by three men in front of his place of business in 2001. Four years later, the leader of the crew,Gerald 'Bogle' Levy was sitting in his truck along with four other persons when it was sprayed with bullets.

As of yet, no motive has been determined but a female is being questioned by police in relation to the incident.In 2005, Smith was arrested in connection with murder, several counts of shooting and arson committed in the Kingston West police division. The video is of the song "Gully Greeper" by Elephant Man. He created the dance move Gully Creeper, made even more popular by Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt, who performed it after his races in Bejing.

The International Athletic Foundation (IAF) Honorary President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) President Lamine Diake hosted the World Athletics Gala in the Salle des Etoiles of the Sporting Club d'Ete in Monte Carlo on Sunday November 23rd. Twenty-two yearl old Jamaican Usain Bolt and Russia's 26-year-old Yelena Isinbavevia (a pole vaulter)were donned the title of Male and Female World Atheletes of the Year 2008.

Bolt captured the world's attention by capturing three gold medals at this year's Olympic Games, winning the men's 100 and 200 metres as well as sprinting the third leg on the 4/100 relay. Aditionally, he clocked world record times in the 100 and 200 meter races, and in the relay as well.

His two individual world records were also nominated for Male Performance of The Year, but he lost it to Cuban Dayron Robles who broke the world record in the men's 110m hurdles in June when he clocked 12.87 a world record improvement of one hundreth of a second.

So Beenie Man had to perform at a government-sponsored event honoring the Jamaican athletes who represented at Bejing. My boy Moses, not only was late, he got there when the show was over. I wish I could have been a fly inside is car...was he tripping? did he really give a damn? was he hustling the driver to put his foot on it????I mean what???????? of course his publicist, Ray Alexander, had to do damage control stating that the artiste "unreservedly apologizes to the Ministry of Culture, the Olympians and all his fans for his late arrival at the official function to honor athletes at the Trelawny "These meetings took longer than anticipated and resulted in the artiste leaving Kingston way past the scheduled 3:00 pm departure time."
