Alas, all my $20 dollar top ups were in vain. I am not a merry millionaire. But I happy so happy to state that a fellow Dominican, Lucille Worrell of Fond Cole won A MILLION US DOLLARS courtesy of LIME. She was one of 300 customers who qualified for the Grand Prize Draw after winning weekly prizes.

Lucille qualified for one of the weekly drawing and won an I-Pod Nano from paying her fixed line bill.

Worrell who has a young son plans on investing the money on his education, building her home and contributing to her Catholic church.

This promotion began in mid-November. LIME customers qualified for weekly prizes by signing-up for a new service, upgrading an existing service, paying their bill in full and on time, texting “Win” to LIME (5463) or topping-up $20 or more on their mobile phones.

Three hundred LIME customers from across the Caribbean, won weekly prizes including plasma TVs, computers, laptops, digital cameras, BlackBerry™ smartphones, Ipaq phones, Sony Playstations and lots more.

It's all out war between LIME and their telecommunications rival Digecl. And well, LIME came out on top (peep the pic above, lol). The Supreme Court in Jamaica basically ordered Digicel to restore all connections between the networks of the two providers.

LIME has also claimed damages for breach of the Interconnection Agreement between the parties; damages pursuant to the Fair Competition Act; costs; interest; and any further or other relief which the court deems just. Digicel is expected to present its case in court on February 3.

Of course Digicel claims that it has not breached the interconnection agreement and says that technical issues were due to a system upgrade.

Now remember Cable and Wireless / LIME was the only chicken in the coop for decades. and Digicel is de major cock that trying to run de backyard. Oh the joys and pitfalls of free market economy. More as this story develops.

Creole in the Park is an annual event organized by major sponsor Cable and Wireless. This year saw the 6th installment of the event which promoted local musicians, as well as local cuisine. The two dollar contribution was not bad either. Here are some pics from the event which lasted from Monday October 27th to Thursday October 30th. Official Site.

What do you think of when you think of Cable and Wireless????? England, monopoly, ever-the-same, blue and white, more recently-- b-mobile, and now -- lime????? Can the company that has dominated the Caribbean telecommunications landscape for decades change it's image????? Well it's too early to tell but that is the hope of the company. So what is lime?

It stands for Landline, Internet, Mobile, Entertainment. An initiative strictly for the Caribbean market. And Cables has come up with a 15 point plan outlining how LIME is going to improve the lives of its customers. Here are some of them:

  • Calls to LIME’s customer service centres will be answered within one minute.
  • No LIME customer will be without the ability to communicate, via at least one of LIME’s services, with their friends, family or colleagues, for more than one day.
  • Customers (and potential customers) will not be sold services or products that they do not need – even if that means LIME loses money on a sale.
  • LIME will ensure that every child, in the markets where LIME operates, will have access to a computer and the Internet to aid their education.
  • LIME will invest $5m in local community initiatives – such as Carnival – every year.
  • LIME will publish its financial results - making it clear how much it has invested in the region and how much Caribbean shareholders have gained from investing in LIME.
  • LIME will operate a “Caribbean supplier first” policy, ensuring that it invests in the economic growth of the region.
  • LIME will provide employment and promotion opportunities for Caribbean residents as a priority.
  • LIME will reduce its paper wastage by 15%, as well as introducing a number of other environmental initiatives.
  • LIME will commit the time of every colleague – from CEO to cleaner – to aiding recovery efforts in times of national crisis.
