New Video: D'Angel Dreams

Posted by Ayeola | 4/11/2009 11:41:00 AM

I really am feeling D’Angel's recent videos. Sophisticated-sexy, is an apt description. In her latest video she dons some sexy lingere and even dresses like a playboy-bunny (minus the ears).

Aidonia was recently cleared of all charges at the Supreme Court in Downtown Kingston. Born Sheldon Lawrence, the deejay's charges included conspiracy to shooting, illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent, all stemming from an incident in the Shortwood Area in January of last year.

The presiding judge dismissed the charges due to failure of an alleged witness who was injured in the incident to give his testimony and base on the lack of evidence on the part of the prosecution.

TABOO YARDIES, a documentary that examines Jamaica's indifference toward homosexuals, will have a screening at the General Theological Seminary in New York City next week.

Selena Blake, a 49 year-old Jamaican filmmaker who is producing Taboo Yardies, says persons attending the April 24 event will see 17 minutes of the film which is expected to be released in late 2009.

"I hope that the documentary will be a springboard in the way we as Jamaicans conduct ourselves in the name of God," Blake told The Gleaner this week from her home in New York.

Blake, who was born in Old Harbour, St Catherine, started work on Taboo Yardies in 2007. Through interviews with gay Jamaicans in the United States and Canada, she attempts to show the un-initiated a look at the prejudice homosexuals face in Jamaica.

The documentary also has interviews with businesspersons who have suffered because of the anti-gay themes of some Jamaican dancehall acts. Businesspersons like show promoter D'Niscio Banks of the annual Carifest concert who was strongly criticised by New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg for inviting Buju Banton and Bounty Killer on that show last year.

Thumbs-up from gay advocates

Taboo Yardies has already got the thumbs-up from gay advocates like Wayne Besen who has called for Americans to boycott Jamaica and Jamaican products, due to persistent violence against gays in the country.

"I strongly urge all people interested in stopping the anti-gay violence in Jamaica to see Taboo Yardies, a film-short on the issue. I saw a preview of the movie and I highly recommend it," said Besen, author of the book, Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth.

Same-sex unions are illegal in Jamaica. Intolerance for homosexuality in the country has been played out in many dancehall songs, the most infamous being Banton's 1994 underground hit, Boom Bye Bye.

Blake has lived in New York City since 1979 and made a living as an actress and catalogue model before branching out into filmmaking. Her first film, 2005's Queensbridge: The Other Side, is a documentary about the Long Island housing project where she lives.

She’s been helping Jasmina–who’s Rihanna’s #1 fan–for a while now to find treatments for her leukemia. She was only supposed to spend an hour with Jasmina, but ended up staying the whole day with her. According to People:

Jasmina, who is a “total girly girl,” according to her mother, Thea Anema, was thrilled when Rihanna presented her with a big bag of Cover Girl makeup. “Rihanna asked me if it was okay to put makeup on Jasmina,” says Anema. “I said, ‘Of course!’ She’s so thrilled with makeup and anything girly.”

Rihanna painted the little girl’s nails and gently brushed “Dance Party” eyeshadow on her tiny eyelids. They played catch together with Jasmina’s stuffed dog, Jackie, which ended with a torrent of giggles and hugs. “Rihanna kept on saying, ‘I love her personality! She is such a little diva!’ ” says Harf. When Rihanna learned that Jasmina speaks Dutch and also understands Mandarin, the superstar said she was amazed at how “intelligent” and “what an amazing little girl” she is.

Too sweet.

Check out this video of Lisa Raye talking to Sister 2 Sister Magazine about her estranged husband Michael Misick.

I don't know what to make of it. One the one hand she feel she has been slighted, but I don't know that all this bad talking the man is working in her favor. At the same time, if he done wrong, she has the right to call him out. They say when one half of a couple talks so much about the other in this situation, they may still be in love/attached....Me personally I would just take my divorce and start over, but it's all about staying in the spotlight I guess....that's Hollywood for ya.

What's your take??? Should couples discuss their divorce or relationship in a public forum????

Here's Ms Campbell on the cover of Giant Mag. She made the news recently when she was quoted in the April issue of German Vogue calling out the fashion industry for racism:

“You know, the American president may be black, but as black woman, I am still an exception in this business. I always have to work harder to be treated equally…In the past, there were more opportunities for black models but the trend towards blond women has again become extreme. In magazines, on the catwalk, I see blond, blue-eyed models everywhere.”

Love you Obama, but I think he is getting enough press. This is the first male on the cover and he's not from the region. I would put Michael Chin who again made Forbes billionaires list, or Jah Cure or Mavado or something...Keep it in the region man.

Amy Winehouse, who returned to the island of St Lucia from her London home last week, reportedly whipped off her bikini top on the beach and ran through the Cotton Bay Villa Hotel where she is staying. Apparently that was a sign of protest after having been told by staff that she could not go topless.

According to guests she was babbling nonsense to herself and flailing her arms in the air as she tore around the pool area where children were playing.

After her bizarre behavior (which when you think about who it's coming from, is it really that bizarre????) her bodyguard picked up the clothing she'd left strewn across the sand and a hotel worker handed her a blue cover-up.

Before that she had gone horse err riding???? Why she look like she scratching her you-know-what with her heel?????? LMAO.....

Here she is taking a stroll with her bodyguard on the beach. Holding him well tight, tight, tight, well tight, tight, tight, tight, tight (you would smile if you were a Triple Kay fan)

Winehouse recently returned to St Lucia after spending two months on the island while recovering from heroin addiction and writing new material for her forthcoming album, the follow-up to Back To Black. As much time as she is spending in St.Lucia, she might as well buy a house, though I'm sure whatever hotel she is at is happy for the dough and the free publicity.

She is not only taken with the physical beauty of the island itself, seems her stay in St. Lucia will heavily influence her music which will reportedly havea heavy Reggae influence. Now if I hear a "wham to dem???" on an Amy Winehouse track I falling down flat!!!! She is scheduled to perform at St. Lucia Jazz Festival Friday May 8th on Pigeon Island. Next month when she returns to the UK she will perform alongside Toots and the Maytals at an Island/Universal party. A sign of things to come???

Her return to London will also mean a return to court where she will face charges for assaulting a dancer at a charity ball. She is also going through divorce proceedings with her husband of two years, Blake Fielder-Civil.

The Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JARIA) recently sent out their official statement on what they headlined: Assassin's Red Stripe Live abruptly ended performance. Taken from Jamaica Observer:

According to the release, JARIA "notes with concern that the performance of Jeffery 'Assassin' Campbell was abruptly discontinued at the recently held Red Stripe Live concert, due to a misunderstanding on the part of the promoters. We wish to express dissatisfaction with respect to the artiste's performance being prematurely terminated as a result of a perceived violation of the rules of engagement by Red Stripe.

"Red Stripe has since apologised for their action. JARIA notes, however, the apology did not clearly indicate that Mr Campbell in fact lived up to his contractual obligations, including his participation in two Red Stripe representative supervised rehearsals. While the apology is a step in the right direction, enough has neither been said nor done in an attempt to repair any damage which may have been done to the artiste's reputation. We wish to recommend that if Red Stripe, or any other sponsor, has concerns about the lyrical content of an impending performance (following observations of the rehearsals), that it should communicate such reservations to the artiste immediately and unequivocally."

Quite frankly, we too had our reservations about the tersely worded apology, which read: "Red Stripe apologises to Mr Jeffery Campbell aka Assassin for the premature end to his performance on Red Stripe Live last Saturday, March 28. Red Stripe is grateful that Mr Campbell supported its first live event to raise funds for its Learning for Life initiative and sincerely regrets that his performance was cut short."

JARIA, in its communique, reminded "all sectors within the Jamaican society that tolerance of competing views is the hallmark of a vibrant democracy and artistes have the distinct right to express their views through song within the confines of the law and the canons of decency (neither of which, in the estimation of JARIA, was breached in this case)."

The release went on to commend Diageo Learning For Life, Project Artiste initiative which targets at risk 18-24-year-olds who have a passion for the music industry and wish to pursue a career in that field.

The concert was held on Saturday, March 28 at Sabina Park in Kingston.
