Teyat Pawol (The theatre of words), a Drama Group from the Caribbean Island of Dominica which was established in Florida in 1999, has returned with a play “DIASPORA”.

DIASPORA, a full-length Action Theatrical Comedy, has its setting in a South Florida City Hall; the play ruptures the many fundamental inconsistencies in Caribbean societies, while highlighting their close Cultural and other similarities. A greater appreciation for self and Country (One Caribbean), is realized and good triumphs over evil at the end. The plot surrounds a group of Florida residents from the Caribbean “Diaspora”, a Sheriff and twin sisters who appear in the form of spirits.
The production will be staged at the Fred Lippmann Multipurpose Center on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:00 pm and Sunday March 29 at 3:00pm. The Thibaud Group of South Florida will receive a recognition plaque from Teyat Pawol on Saturday March 28 and a Mini Cultural Expo will precede the Sunday 29th production.
The event is supported by the City of Hollywood and is sponsored by Fancy Loaf Bakery on County Line Road (Miami) and PAWOL Media Consultancy.
Support for the event also came from Marlon A. Hill, Esq. The Hollywood City Manager, Mr. David Cameron, Hon. Kirk Francoise and Hon. Sandra Grant Griffiths, Consul Generals of the Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica respectively, will attend the Saturday production.
The cast include, Tabitha Dacres of Jamaica, Lauralyn Dennis and Miriam Scott from Trinidad & Tobago, Priscilla Denis, Nicaise Parillon, Rashida Richardson, Noreen Joseph, Mickael Ferrol, Giselle Gabriel and Emile “Pa Ben” Serrant from Dominica. The group’s Artistic Director/Writer is Alex Bruno and Technical Director is Vernard Christian.
Diaspora is expected to bring out the theatre-going audience and will certainly provoke laughs and create nostalgia, especially for the Caribbean patrons. Diaspora is suitable for the general audience.
The Play runs for 85 minutes and consists of 11 characters in 4 acts and 13 scenes.
