Maxim Magazine says she is The Hottest Pop Star of the Decade. She is included in their young hollywood list which is revealed in the Jan. 2009 issue.
She is BET Fashion Icon of the Year Source
Entertainment Weekly dubbed her Diva of the Year Source. The mag uses Beyonces definition of Diva (a female version of a hustler) to set the bar.
Her album Good Girl Gone Bad was the Number 7th most sold album of the year. She's had a slew of hit singles from the album included "Take A Bow" and "Rehab" her most recent featuring Justin Timberlake. She toured with Kanye West on his Glow In The Dark Tour BTW her concert will be on TNT Latin America tonight.
2009 looks pretty good so far. She will be performing at the NRJ Awards in France on Jan. 17th and at the RIAA Inauguration Ball Gala on the 20th.
I like this pic of her above. I think it captures all her titles, she looks hot and hard working at the same time, you see her tatoos which have gotten much attention, her haircut which has been a whole blog topic in itself, her love of leather evident at many performances and her fashion forward vibe. Big ups to you girl. Reach for the stars.
Shaggy is really working hard to promote his fund-raising concert to be held Jan. 3rd. His goal is to raise $2 Million for the Bustamante Children's Hospital. Below is the video for the song "Save A Life" featuring Shaggy, Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Gramps, Chris Martin, Tessanne Chin, Etana, Daville, Luciano, Marcia Griffiths, D Major, Freddie Mcgregor, & DLYNX. Jamaican film maker, Dickie Jobson, known for the 1982 feature film Countryman, passed away on Christmas Day at University Hospital in Jamaica. According to IMDB the movie tells the tale of "a young woman [who]crash-lands her plane in Jamaica. A local named Countryman rescues her and leads her away from the authorities, who have fabricated a story about the plane, involving drug and arms smuggling by the CIA, in order to gain popularity in an upcoming election. ." The film was even screened at Cannes and more recently at the Reggae Film Festival this year where he was also awarded for his contribution to the film industry in Jamaica.
photo sourcepictured with by Minister of Information & Culture, Olivia Babsy Grange (right) and Barbara Blake-Hannah, director of the Reggae Film Festival in February this year.
Apart from his role in this classic Jamaican favorite, Jobson was creator of Runaway Bay, a children's adventure television series, which ran from 1992 to 1993. The show followed a group of friends having adventures while living on the island Martinique. Remember Naomie Harris from Pirates in The Caribbean (the Jamaican lady)? She played the role of Shuku in the series. You tube is so awesome... I found a clip from Runaway Bay on the site...Never seen the show but you can look at other episodes here.
Not only intensely involved in film industry, Jobson played a significant role on the music scene. He was very close to Island Records' founder Chris Blackwell and was the first director of both Island Records and Blue Mountain Music. He managed Bob Marley and the Wailers froms, 1973-1975, as well as artists such as Joe Higgs, Jimmy Cliff and Toots Hibbert.
A man of many hats, he was once the director of The Fat Burger Inc, a popular eatery in Los Angeles, as well as a director for the Jamaican organic farming and livestock company, Allied Farms Limited.
Surely, he will be missed.

David Alexander Smith more popularly known as "Ice," was shot in the head and chest during an argument with two men who took his keys and fled in his rented Mitsubishi Lancer. Local sources indicate that the shooting took place at a bar on Newark Avenue, off Waltham Park Road in Kingston early yesterday morning.
36 year old Smith was a member of the Black Roses Crew based on Lincoln Road in Kingston and is the third leading member to be murdered. William "Willie Haggart" Moore was gunned down by three men in front of his place of business in 2001. Four years later, the leader of the crew,Gerald 'Bogle' Levy was sitting in his truck along with four other persons when it was sprayed with bullets.
As of yet, no motive has been determined but a female is being questioned by police in relation to the incident. In 2005, Smith was arrested in connection with murder, several counts of shooting and arson committed in the Kingston West police division. The video is of the song "Gully Greeper" by Elephant Man. He created the dance move Gully Creeper, made even more popular by Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt, who performed it after his races in Bejing.

listen to the song HERE!
I just took the holiday as another day to just give thanks for all my blessings. I wish the best for you all in 2009, especially the youth of the region. Right now there is a serious lack of respect in society for any kind of rules, regulation or authority. Too many young people are out there committing senseless acts with no regard for the sanctity of life. Just yesterday a childhood friend of mine was stabbed in the chest because he confronted someone who shot him twice with a pellet gun. So now you can't even tell somebody they wronged you? This boy's life could have been gone in an instant had they hit him in the left and not the right side. And over what???? Bullshit. (Taking a breath). Yeah I'm pretty disgusted about that. But I still have hope.
I really would like to implore to artists to be more positive with your lyrics. Yes I believe in freedom of expression, I can listen to a "gangsta" type song and not necessarily want to go out there and emulate the artist, but young kids, especially boys really buy into that image and lifestlye. Parents too need to play their part. I go out and see high school kids in fetes where I feel grown folks should be. My first night in a club was when I was in college. I dunno, kids just growing up too fast these days. And its funny, cause I'm sure the same was said about my generation when we were kids. Life is a cycle, you know. Wow, O.K I was talking about Christmas right? Well lets just carry the spirit with us to 2009 and "Bring Back The Love!"

Dancehall artist Serani's smash hit "No Games" has made it on the Billboard Charts in get this the Hot RnB/Hip-Hop Singles Chart. The top five songs on the chart are "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" Beyonce, "Live Your Life" T.I feat. Rihanna, "Chopped 'N' Skrewed" T-Pain feat. Ludacris, "Miss Independent" Ne-Yo and "Trading Places" Usher.
So he is in some great company, some might say in quantity not quality. Regardless, I love the song. I can't hear it and sit down. Doh mention if I just get to my destination and it comes on. Yeah, I'll be rocking it in the car. lol. Some of you know you do it to. so don't front.
Anyways the song is produced by Linton "TJ" White and is featured on the Unfinished Business Riddim. Apart from the Singles chart it debuted at #53 on the Hot RnB/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. TJ also has another track on that same riddim on Billboard as well, and that is Mavado's "I'm So Special" which re-entered the charts and #53.

Here's an update on the Wyclef Jean foreclosure situation. It's been reported that the $2.4M Miami waterfront house went on the auction block last Friday. The house was scheduled to be sold at the Miami-Dade Courthouse along with a handful of liens by the construction crews, who never finished, and more than $100 thousand in unpaid taxes.
November foreclosures in Miami-Dade county were almost double what they were last year. For the entire year of 2005 there were only 78 hundred foreclosure filings. Jump to 2007, the number increased to 27 thousand and for the first 11 months of 2007, foreclosures have increased to 51 thousand. So Clef's situation is not isolated. Just hope he comes through this situation.

Ha! Got you...lol. It's the ever-so hot, delectable, sexy, fine and so dignified Idris Elba in the new film Obsessed which hits screens April 24th 2009. He plays a business man married to Beyonce's character and is dealing with an in-office affair with Ali Larter (Heroes NBC) who goes a stalkerrific on him. Wow, Rhona Fox did you tap them for that Annya Li song???? "You is a stalker, damn, you is a stalker damn" ...check out the trailer below!
This is Annya Li a Trini singer/songwriter. and below is her new single Stalker (Club Mix).
Hmmm, I dunno. I don't hate it, but it does nothing for me. All I can think of when I listen to the song is "Pump up the jam, pump it up, pump it up yo pump it" Ya'll remember that? Maybe cause of her tone. So Imma give it some time. Maybe it will grow on me. Or maybe they'll come out with a soca remix (yes I am partial to soca and reggae), put a likke iron behind it, then Imma be all over it. Check out her MySpace page (awesome pics). Very well designed. Serious props for that.
On The Scene: Mr. Benji, Dwane Husbands, Bounty Killa, Jr. Kelly, Mavado, Rihanna, OlBenz, Leona

Friday saw Rihanna at Z100's Jingle Ball in NYC performing with her BooBoo C-Breezy (who is Billboard's #1 artist of the year, RiRi is #5).
Saturday they were in Miami Intl Airport. While Mel B was at the Grove shopping with the fam. I went to OlBenz album release party at Harlem Plaza (nuff local artist doing their thing). And Bounty Killa, Jr. Reid and Mavado were at the Stone Love Party in Jamaica.
Leona Lewis was at Jingle Ball too and on Monday she was at David Letterman promoting Spirit. Happy Watching!!!!
Shirley Maynier Burke, mother of politician Paul Burke, won a landmark ruling when the lyrical copyright of the song "Hoolignas" was transferred from Bob Marley and Studio One to her. The song was recorded by JamRec in the 60s.
As for the beginnings of the song, Ms. Burke told the Jamaica Observer:
"Somewhere in the '60s there was a rude boy phenomena and I was then a member of the Jamaica Federation of Women and they wanted me to do a television discussion on the subject," . But I told them that they were preaching to the converted. We really needed to get a voice that the masses would hear, so I said 'why don't I write a song for Marley and the Wailers'. They didn't all approve. Anyhow, I wrote the lyrics, took it to Steven Dodd. The song was recorded, I got six copies of the record...,"
The ruling was done "by Consent" meaning that there was an agreement among the parties. The Marley estate did not contest.
Early next year will see the start of filming of the independent movie Babylon in Jamaica, that's according to Variety Magazine. Emmy Award -winning actor Paul Giamatti ( Big Momma's House, Saving Private Ryan) and co-star Anthony Mackie (The Man, 8 Mile) will be in Jamaica in February to begin shooting. The script was written by Ian Stone (The Simpson Movie) and Adreas Baiz is the Director (Santana).
Mackie plays a Rastafarian, and Giamatti a British minister of religion. They are both trying to protect a 12-year-old Jamaican boy from gangsters.
By the way theses guys are busy for 2009. Giamatti will star in Duplicity opposite Clive Owens and Julia Roberts, The Owl In Daylight and Ironclad.
Mackie will be playing Tupac in Notorious (story of the life and death of B.I.G), The Great Observer and Jesse Owens.
AND NOW MY TWO CENTS!Allu already know ....de fake Jamaican accent coming. Not to cringe before the movie comes out, but goddam Jamaica doh have actors that could play a rasta???? And as for Tupac--Now he has the brows down but I don't know how they going to give him full sexy as mutha-shut yo-mawth, delicious lips(lol). That I definitely want to see
This past Saturday, Stone Love celebrated their anniversary as well as dolled out awards to several artists in the industry.
The coveted titles of Deejay of the Year Male and Female went to Vybz Kartel and D'Angel respectively, while Mavado was named Singjay of the Year.Best New Artiste, Male and Female went to Konshens and Pamputae respectively. The award for Singer of the Year wnt to Etana (Femaile) and Serani (Male), and Stone Love selector, Diamond was named Employee of the Year.
It was interesting to note that there was no award for Song of the Year. Not too sure the reason. Some reggae tunes I enjoyed this year include: Etana "Don't Forget", Tarrus Riley "Far Away", Richie Stephens "Come to Jamaica", Gyptian "I can Feel Your Pain", Tifa "Bottom of De Barrell", Busy Signal "Tic-Toc", Serani "No Games", Mavado "I'm So Special", ya...I could go one and on as you can see my list is all encompassing, sometimes I just like the beat and the melody ....those are just a few of the songs I'm digging. I could go on and on..

Aight ya'll I think I need to start captioning these posts "I Need a Bailout!" New on the list of artists facing serious financial woes is Douglas Davis AKA Doug E. Fresh AKA The Human Beatbox. The 46 year old has been hit with three foreclosure actions by banks looking to collect over $3.5 million in unpaid mortgages on a trio of homes in Harlem. In addition, he also allegedly owes American Express nearly $60,000 in credit-card debt, and the IRS just slapped him with a $367,000 tax lien on top of more than $40,000 owed to the state tax collector.
I guess he's like thousands of Americans who have fallen behind on their mortgages and it's caught up with him. I know some of you may be saying "How could he have let this happen?" Probably just like how it happens to so many others, playing that balancing act. I hope it is a lesson learnt for him, if this is indeed true, and one that we can learn to from as well. Like Frankie say "Handle yoh Handle!"
