BUJU BANTON is scheduled to start a 40-city tour of Europe on Sunday to promote his Rasta Got Soul album which was released in May by his Gargamel company.

The tour will kick off in France, with scheduled dates in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Austria, Poland and Belgium. Banton has encountered problems with gay rights groups in Europe in the past, who claim that some of his songs incite violence against homosexuals. But his European agent, Michel Jovanovick of MediaCom Agency, says those obstacles have been cleared.

"People are really excited to see Buju Banton deliver his message live," Jovanovick said. Full-length release Gargamel act New Kidz, veteran deejay Delly Ranx and seasoned session vocalist Nikki Burt are also part of the tour.

Rasta Got Soul was officially launched at the University of the West Indies' Mona campus in St Andrew. It is Banton's first full-length release without long-time collaborator Donovan Germain with whom he split in 2008. The album will be released this month in Europe where it is being distributed by Groove Attack/Good To Go Records. A tour of the United States is expected to follow the European jaunt.
