Musical legends Frankie Paul and John Holt join Beres Hammond on stage at the 12th Annual JAMROCK Reggae Fest! Come seeFrankie "Dancehall" Paul, the father of Rock Steady, John Holt along with the originator of Lover's Rock, Beres Hammond, all on one stage. Newly added acts are Culture featuring Kenyatta Hill and Lenya Wilks along with Natural Blacks. This classic lineup is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser with phenomenal performances at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York, on Saturday, July 18, 2009.

Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster, Reggaefest.com and various locations through out the tri-state area with ticket prices starting at just $49.99!

Kenyatta Hill is the son of the late Joseph Hill, front man of Culture, the legendary vocal trio whose 1977 record "Two Sevens Clash" helped define the roots reggae genre. In August 2006, while on tour in Berlin, Germany, Joseph Hill suddenly fell ill and passed away. Kenyatta has since carried the torch successfully performing as the front man for Culture and paying tribute to his father with every performance.

Natural Blacks, the Guyanese-born roots singer has made a persistent stance in reggae with songs like "Far from Reality" and "Never Leave You Lonely." His style and personality has made him a favorite among some of the top record producers and fans in Jamaica, and throughout the Caribbean.

Frankie Paul is often referred to as Jamaica's Stevie Wonder, and not just because of his visual impairment; like Wonder, he was a talented multi-instrumentalist with a tremendous vocal range. He was also extraordinarily prolific; part of the first wave of dancehall artists, he started his recording career in earnest during the early '80s, and has since flooded the market with product, releasing countless singles and well over 30 albums. Fans can look forward to hits like "Tidal Wave," "Sara" and "Slow Down."

John Holt has delivered timeless reggae classics like "Police in Helicopter," "Stick by Me," and "Ali Baba." The former lead singer of the Parogons still stands head and shoulders above the rest as one of Jamaica's sweetest singers and enduring songwriters. He has voiced and penned so many of the country's classics that in a way, Holt has defined the island's sound.

Known to many as the "Otis Redding of Reggae," Beres Hammond has been writing, producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over soulful reggae riddims for over three decades. From his early days as the lead singer of the '70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced hits and number one singles. As the cornerstone to Lover's Rock, he has inspired the next generation of reggae soul singers and international superstars like Wyclef Jean and Alicia Keys. Fans can look forward to hearing timeless classics like "Tempted to Touch," and "Rock Away," as well as material from his latest album, A Moment in Time.

Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster, Reggaefest.com and at various Tri-State area ticket locations. Log on to www.reggaefest.com for more information and location details.

No doubt Machel Montano is impacted by Michael Jackson's death. He started his career as a young child like MJ is a leader his his genre like the King himself. Here is an official statement from our King of Soca concerning MJ's passing.

MJ
Michael Jackson
August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

From Machel Montano:

Condolences to the King's family, friends and fans as we all mourn together! Michael Jackson will be missed but never forgotten. Even in death he was able to unite people of all creeds and colors and make them happy; he is the greatest entertainer thatever lived.

Machel Red Side

I and so many others owe our careers to MJ - he encouraged my dream. So much of what I have done has been inspired and informed by him. His standards have set the stage for my goals and in this way he has touched so many.

It is also very important to note that he chose to use his influence for the greater good of mankind in the messages he delivered through songs like "We Are The World," "Heal The World," "Man In The Mirror," "Black Or White," "I Believe I Can Fly," and so many more.

MJ was more than a man - he was a "moment in time," and like Bob Marley, this moment will never end. Long live the King!

The King of Pop, Dead at 50!

Posted by Ayeola | 6/26/2009 01:31:00 AM

Wow...what a schocker! Michael Jackson dead at 50.....

The world is is mourning the physical loss of this musical genius of a man.Thank you Michael for your catalogue of music that has touched so many! Rest In Peace

From AP:
Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the “King of Pop” and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation.

The circumstances of Jackson’s death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the hospital, Ruda told the newspaper.

Jackson’s death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music’s premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

From Yahoo! News:

Chris Brown pleaded guilty Monday to assaulting Rihanna and the two were ordered to stay away from each other, in a deal that keeps the singer out of prison but requires him to clean up graffiti or roadside trash.

Brown's plea to a felony charge will subject him to substantial scrutiny by probation officials, and the judge's order puts the kibosh on any short-term prospects for reconciliation with his pop diva girlfriend as well.

The guilty plea came before a preliminary hearing was scheduled to start. The hearing had been billed for weeks as a public face-off between the pair, with Rihanna set to testify against her one-time boyfriend.

Instead, Brown averted the potentially damaging meeting by entering a plea that will subject him to probation for the next five years as well as force him to perform six months of community service.

Mark Geragos, Brown's lawyer, said the plea represented the singer taking responsibility for his actions — which included beating, choking and biting Rihanna during a fight early Feb. 8, according to police.

After Brown left the courtroom, Rihanna entered and was addressed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg, who explained to the Barbados-born singer that she had issued a stay-away order.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg, who explained to the Barbados-born singer that she had issued a stay-away order.

Rihanna had not been seeking such an order, but the judge imposed one anyway. The order requires that Brown and Rihanna stay at least 50 yards from each, except at industry events when the distance is reduced to 10 yards.

The judge also told Rihanna it's not a one-way order — and that she, too, shouldn't get any closer to Brown than the order allows.

"This is a kid who's never been in trouble before," Geragos said after the hearing. "He embraces this as chance to get the message out that domestic violence will not be tolerated. He wants to get his life back on track."

Brown will be formally sentenced on Aug. 5.

Schnegg accepted Brown's plea, but expressed some concerns because Brown is not a California resident. She said Brown likely will be allowed to do his service in his home state of Virginia, but she didn't want him to spend his time at churches or community centers.

Instead, Schnegg ordered Brown to get his hands dirty by doing work equivalent to what he would do in California — clean up grafitti or roadside trash.

She also said he'll have to return to California every three months and attend domestic violence counseling.

Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, said the terms were in line with what others receive when they are charged with similar crimes and have no prior criminal history.

Brown spoke softly throughout the hearing as he waived his rights and told the judge he understood the gravity of his plea.

"I think it's commendable you took responsibility for your conduct," Schnegg told Brown.

She said she hoped "the terms and conditions of your probation will have some meaning."

Rihanna spoke briefly, too, telling Schnegg she understood the terms of the stay-away order and that after Brown's sentencing she might ask for its terms to be loosened.

Rihanna, 21, recorded one of 2007's most popular songs with "Umbrella" and has numerous other hits. Her looks have made her a cover girl for magazines, as well as a pitchwoman for Cover Girl cosmetics.

The deal provides an end to a case that sparked intense media interest and severe backlash against Brown. Sponsors and radio stations dropped him, and the singer had to cancel several high-profile appearances, including a performance at the Grammys.

The singer once known for his squeaky-clean image now has a substantial blemish on his record. Brown, 20, rose to fame after the 2005 hit "Run It!" He was nominated for a Grammy for "No Air" with Jordin Sparks and named Billboard's top artist in 2008.

Intense media coverage led to Rihanna being identified as Brown's victim mere hours after the attack. Within weeks, a photo of the singer and model's bruised and battered face was posted on celebrity gossip site TMZ.

The posting sparked an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department into whether one of its own officers leaked the photo to the Web site. Brown's attorney unsuccessfully argued the leak hurt Brown and that he should be granted access to LAPD's investigative files.

Brown recently proclaimed in a video posted to YouTube that he was "not a monster."

Even after Monday's hearing, lawyers for Brown and Rihanna refused to discuss the status of the pair's relationship.

Brown was arrested hours after police say he hit and threatened Rihanna after leaving a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles. He was later charged with felony assault likely to produce great bodily harm and making criminal threats.

If convicted, the singer faced sentences ranging up to nearly five years in prison.

After an inital retreat from the public eye, both musicians have gradually appeared in public more frequently. Lately they have been photographed separately, including at a National Basketball Association finals game between the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers.

But neither has been able to shake the stigma of the court case and return to their usual jobs — making music.

The logistics of Brown's sentence may make it difficult to get back to his job.

"It amounts to a very sweaty house arrest," said Loyola University Law School Professor Stan Goldman, who was in the courtroom. "You have to have the discipline to show up several times a week. How many times will this interfere with a record date or an appearance?"

So there's this site called Tales From A Groupie and it pretty much speaks for itself. So this girl/woman/groupie/what-have-you is giving the nitty gritty on her bedroom experience with Mavado........

Mavado came to Jacksonville 3/19/09 at a club called Plush. Since I've been knowing his uncle since '07 I knew I would get backstage pazzes. Well, he gave me 3 tickets and I invited one of my girls to come along so we went and bought outfits etc. So I called his uncle to touch base, while he is talking to me I noticed I didn't have his full attention, I heard a bunch of men in the background so I automatically assumed it was mavado and his entourage, his uncle told me he would call me back but I sweet talked him saying I missed him and I needed to see him and how I was stressed and needed some ganja to smoke(basically anything to get over there) he finally gave in and told me to come over to get my "package." Me and my girl got dolled up I'm talking straight diva status so we get to the house and he let us in but he wouldn't let us any further then the den. So I'm sweet talking and "choked" needless to say I got in the back to use the "bathroom." Once I walked through it was so loud and so much smoke, I saw Mavado but he didn't see me, I stayed in the bathroom did a good look over in the mirror and applied more perfume took a deep breath and walked out, his song "Real Killer" was playing so I started dancing and singing the song, almost all eyes were on me I waved and said how's everyone doing mavado looked at me and said "blessed" how he was looking me up and down I could tell he was f*cking me with his eyes, by then another song started and I did a little dutty whine and this lil thing I do with my ass. I saw his uncle coming so I gave him a seductive look and left meeting his uncle right at the door, his uncle gave me my package and I left. After a couple of spliffs and a bottle of hennessy me and my girl was ready to go to the concert, I called the uncle and told him I was in the parking lot. He told me and my friend to come straight up front in which we did and got in, he gave me 3 backstage pazzes and I gave him one back along with the extra ticket. At this time an opening act was on stage, me and my girl went backstage to chill for a few,the hennessy had me so bold, I went right over and sat next to Mavado's cousin chase cross an up and coming reggae artist. So me and my friend were talking to him at this time Mavado makes references to my breast and pum pum in his native patois language I laughed and responded. I could tell he iwas impressed by my speaking and understanding what he was saying, I asked for a picture with him giving some dude my phone for the camera. Mavado grabbed my phone and called his phone to get my number and said I'll see you after the show. After some grinding and blatant flirting I knew I wasn't going to make it to work the next morning. The show went really well I danced with his uncle and left immediately after trying to prepare for my booty call because I was sweated out. About 3:30 a.m. I got a call from anonymous number, I answered and he told me he was at the hyatt and to call when I'm outside and he will send someone to get me. When I got there he was chilling in some shorts and a green yellow and red netted like wife beater, he said something quickly to his boy and then he invited me to a spliff I smoked and drank some more, he turned on some music and told me to whine and take off my clothes, while I'm dancing and taking off my clothes he turned on a lamp and off the lights, he grabbed my wrist and got the spliff he stayed behind me grinding and whine to my riddim, out of no where he got aggressive and pushed me against the back of the sofa he smacked my ass and began to pull down my thong,
Go to The Site to read the full version

There's one of Common too. Damn he so fine. Serena you lucky eh....

I read the comments. It was funny that some people did not know who Mavado was-somebody wrote "Fuck is Mavado..? A new dance craze..?" Of course you had the usual stereotyping"Oooh island guys do it better" and what not (no comment! lol)

On the real tho...I wouldn't mind a story about Assasin. He's got a hot body. Lips that are just so divine and nuff attitude....Busy Signal is on my (reading) list. Maxwell maybe. In the soca arena maybe Benjai or Machel (I bet he's a fureak!)

Remember Aunt Viv from” Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”? The original Aunt Viv? Well Janet Hubert has a new tell-all/memoirs out called Perfection Is Not A Sitcom Mom where she she dishing some behind the scenes info on Will Smith and its not in his favor. Here’s an excerpt:

“Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary’s boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on ‘The Tonight Show,’ that first season, except Will. And I mean no one.”

There's more:
“I recall the lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn coming to guest star. Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history – banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. ‘Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,’ she asked? Simply, my darling, you were too good,” she recollected.

Wow. Now is this someone who thinks it's the right time to come out with the truth, or is this a case of sour grapes????

Rihanna partys in NY being sued inLA

Ahhhhrite......it's bad enough she has to go to court to deal with her Chris Brown scandal/drama beatdown what-have-you,now Riri is being sued by herL.A. neighbor Christian Moeller–who designs spaces for The W Hotel in Hollywood. According to TMZ:

Rihanna rents a home owned by Stephen Yacobian, whose house is next door to Moeller’s. Moeller gave Yacobian an easement — the right to drive cars on a portion of Moeller’s property. But two years ago, Yacobian renovated the property and the easement wasn’t really being used. To make matters a lot worse, since Rihanna moved in she’s been allowing cars to drive on Moeller’s lawn to get to her driveway… and the suit claims sometimes the cars just sit there on the lawn. So Moeller wants the easement eliminated. As for Rihanna, Moeller is suing her for allowing people and cars to trespass on his property.

Wheh boy. It don't seem to bother her too much cause she still hitting the clubs and what not. living it up!

You know I must give it up to Bob Marley's kids. They have all taken up the mantle and created ventures that will not only bring them some mulah, but will keep Bob Marley's name forever in the business and media forefront. There's Tuff Gong Clothing, The Marley Resort in the Bahamas, The Bob Marley Museum and of course the various musical ventures of his children Julian,Damian, Ky-Mani and Stephen. Well Rohan Marley is adding one more company to the Marley Empire: Marley Coffee.

Say what???? Well it's not that far fetched really. It's natural, grows in Jamaica, and it tastes good (I hope...lol). And hello we already have the jingle/tag line "Stir It Up"courtesy of Marley senior.

So like I was saying Rohan Marley is the brains behind this venture. He is Bob's son with Janet Hunt and father of Lauryn Hill's five kids. He started the Marley Coffee brand with his friend Shane Whittle.

There are several blends, some playing on the names of a few of Bob`s more popular tunes. There is Mystic Morning Wake Up Coffee Medium Roast; Simmer Down Organic Swiss Water Decaf; One Love Organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe; Lively Up! Organic 5 Bean Espresso Blend and Jammin Java Organic Bold Full City Roast.

From July 1 to August 30th, Jamaican Lover's Rock Icon and Garmmy-nomintated reggae crooner Beres Hammond will make his second trek across the United States and Canada for his highly anticipated encore tour.

Fans can look forward to hearing his timeless classics as well as current hits from his VP Records album A Moment In Time released late last year.

Known to many as the originator of “Lover’s Rock” or the “Otis Redding of Reggae,” Beres Hammond has been writing, producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over three decades. He has repeatedly sold out some of the country’s largest and most prestigious venues (Theatre at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall). He has paved the way for many musicians today and is a favorite of Wyclef Jean, Carl Thomas and Alicia Keys.

From his early days as the lead singer of the ‘70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced hits and number one singles. While newcomers today are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity. He released his first studio album, Soul Reggae in 1976 spawning the number one hit “One Step Ahead” and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do” off his self entitled album. He has collaborated with Reggae’s elite—Marcia Griffiths and Buju Banton who are virtually staples on any Beres tour—and has worked with legendary producers Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip “Fattis” Burrell, to name a few. In 1990, his album A Love Affair from Donovan Germain's Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the ‘90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers' anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers' laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail). In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like “They Gonna Talk” and “Rock Away” from his Grammy nominated album Music is Life. VP Records then released The Ultimate Collection: Can’t Stop A Man in 2003 to commemorate Hammond’s career, and his 2004 album Love Has No Boundaries, which featured his familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves.
