REGGAE SUMFEST, which is said to be the world’s greatest showcase of reggae music, will take place from July 19-25 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The top acts in reggae and dancehall music who are expected to take centre stage and so far are Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Spice, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Inner Cicrle, Mavado, Tarrus Riley, Kip Rich, Demarco, Etana, Morgan Heritage, Voice Mail, Busy Signal, Da’Ville, Coco Tea, Black Rhino, Rhaatid and Dub Tonic Kru.

According to a press release, the organisers are working around the clock to bring patrons the hottest Reggae Sumfest and would keep adding artistes to the lineup gradually.

Organisers are still negotiating with the inclusion of international American acts; however, past performances had included Mary J Blige, LL Cool J, Rihanna, 50-cent and G-Unit and Missy Elliott.

Recently, Summerfest Productions, organisers of the event, won an award at this year’s International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) as Promoter of the Year.

“This is evidence that we’re doing something right with Reggae Sumfest,” Johnny Gourzong, the executive director of Summerfest Promotions, said in a press release after collecting the award in New York.

Gourzong, who collected the same award in 2008 in addition to the award for Concert of the Year, said the trophy serves as extra motivation to provide entertainment value like Jamaica has never seen.

“I’m excited about this award, and after this year’s Sumfest we will prove for the 17th consecutive year that we are the greatest reggae show on earth,” Gourzong commented.

This year will be the 17th staging of the Jamaica Reggae Sumfest.
