Earthquake Shakes Region

Last Thursday a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe and was the most powerful recorded in the region in over 30 years.

Tremors were felt in throughout the region and there were also reports of shocks as far south as Guyana and north to Puerto Rico.
The earthquake damaged buildings and caused widespread panic across the Eastern Caribbean.
Experts from the Caribbean Seismic Centre at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad are calling for governments to set up earthquake safety training procedures for the region.
