Two of the most sultry, sexy and soulful voices from the Caribbean have teamed up together for the first time. Kees Dieffenthaller, lead singer from KES THE BAND and the sexy songstress from Jamaica, Tessanne Chin have collaborated on a track they both wrote together, along with KC Phillips and which was subsequently produced by Precision Productions (KC Phillips and Nikholai Greene) at the Underground Studio in Jamaica. The new track is titled “Loving You”. 
The idea for the collaboration came after hearing Tessanne’s mega hit “Hideaway” which took the airwaves by storm roughly two years ago. The song - a fusion of reggae with rock riffs was a style that Kes The Band has also been exploring (songs like Stalker, Runaway, and Till The Morning) and felt that working with Tess would be a perfect union.
“It took us a little while to actually reach out to her” says Kees, “and through management and a friend of hers, we finally were in touch with her camp. After some discussions on both sides we decided the best thing would be for myself and KC Phillips to fly out to Jamaica and spend some time there”. Once in Jamaica, Kees, KC and Tess hit it off and spent a week writing the track, and also recording it. “The musicians were called in, we had the studio, it all seemed to flow”’ says KC.
“I first heard about Kes through Alicia Powell when we did the Basia shoot,” says Tessanne, “She mentioned that she thought we would make a great partnership. Since then, it had been in my thoughts, about a year before the Kes Management team reached out to us! Once that happened, I started to do some research on the band. I checked out you tube where I saw performance clips, and also heard his songs. Very quickly I realized that I would be part of something wonderful if we were to work together.”
“Kes the Band represents everything I love about music and its ability to break down barriers, transcend, change and evolve. I feel very strongly that we are helping it progress in our own way. We dare to be different and refuse to be limited or be put in a box of any kind! I am so happy I had the chance to work with them and look forward to a great musical future”.
After hearing the final version of the song, the duo decided that a music video would be the icing on the cake! Life Garland, a well established music video director out of LA, (who has worked with Nelly, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, Pretty Ricky and Juvenile to name a few), was asked to direct. In 2004 he was nominated for the VMA”s best Rap Video for Lil Jon’s “Get Low” and in 2006 he won the award for Chamillionaire’s “Ridin Dirty”. Garland, along with a local team that included the very talented Director of Photography, Sheldon Felix (Militainment), shot the music video over a two-day period.
“The experience was phenomenal”, says Tessanne. “The production was smooth, professional and the video has a story line that we are excited to show to the world”.
“The whole way it happened, the song, the video, working with Tess has been a really positive one for me, and the band,” says Kees. “She is a incredibly talented woman, her voice, is amazing! And she is just gorgeous!” he smiles.
There are more things to come from both Kes the Band and Tessanne Chin. Kes has another video that will be released in summer along with some touring, and Tessanne is currently working on her debut album. Look out for more from these two powerhouses!

I wanted to interview Guyanese-born, openly-gay singer Nhojj because his music is very soothing, relaxing and I love his voice. Also I wanted to introduce the Caribbean audience to him. I don't think in perusing the Internet that I have ever seen his name on any Caribbean site. Though to be fair one does not automatically think "Caribbean" upon listening to his music. His popularity within the gay community is on the rise due to his same gender music and of course the awesome voice. So, in keeping with our theme "Stars on the Rise" please read on to see what he thinks of his journey to the top.
1. What does success mean to you?
Success is being able to do what I love to do – create music. Success is creating music that moves and touches people. Success is receiving emails and comments saying that my music made a difference in someone's life – even if its a small one. Success is getting better and better at being a human being. Success is staying happy regardless of what is happening around.
2. What do you want to achieve in your field?
I want to raise the visibility and respect of LGBT artists in the music industry and help bridge the gap that exists between heterosexuals and homosexuals. I want to be a good role model for LGBT youth. We are all God's children.
3. What is the greatest sacrifice you have made so far in your career?
The biggest sacrifice I've made is giving up the sense of security that most people feel when they have a career that is tried and tested. If you go to Med school and study hard, you can rest assured that you can live comfortably for the rest of your life. If you become a musician – there isn't that feeling of assurance. I've given up that sense of security in order to gain personal fulfillment.
4. Though you already have a loyal following, do you ever fear that you won’t make it big?
I want to be happy and live my truth and I want to create music that I feel is worth making. If that takes me to super stardom – that's great, if it doesn't I'm still happy because my satisfaction has to come from within. Celebrities come and go, sometimes rather quickly – I don't want to spend my life chasing something so fleeting. I want to spend my life and energy nourishing my spirit.
5. What makes you stand out in your field?
We're all unique and special and I believe that anyone who focuses on those aspects of their nature will stand out in their field. I believe its about nurturing your own private genius. And I believe that is what has allowed me to stand out – I've worked hard at staying true to who I am and not hiding those parts of me that seem different.
6. What is the best piece of advice you have been given and who was it from?
Focus on the things you want and dream big everyday – I read it in Jack Canfield's book “Success Principles.”
7. What advice do you have for anyone trying to make it in your field?
Read everything you can, work at getting better and better at your craft, and of course dream big everyday.

Rapper Drake has shot down reports that he collaborated with former G-Unit “first lady” Olivia on a recently leaked track titled “Control.”'

In an exclusive interview with All HipHop.com he states:
“I support artist collaborations and sampling music that inspires you but I don’t support taking unauthorized recordings and marketing them as features,” Drake told AllHipHop.com. “I’ve never worked with Olivia and I apologize to any fan who was duped into thinking that ‘Control’ was a collaboration of mine.”

Olivia's manager Rich Dollaz contacted HipHopDX to clarify the song's inception and Drake's reaction.
Below is Dollaz' statement, as told to HipHopDX this morning:
"Number one, we never said we worked with Drake. Number two, the Canadian producers who did ['Control'], Sold Out Entertainment, we sent them our part back. They leaked out the record which is why I've always said the record been leaked, not because we wanted to diss Drake, but because we understand what it was. We never worked with Drake, we did out half the record and they did their half.
The producers put together the record and leaked it before they confirmed with Drake. We don't really care. It was for a mixtape Under the Radar, which comes out on the 25th on OliviaWorldwide.com. We're not pressed about it, because it's a mixtape record to us, so it is what it is. We never planned to do anything with it, but put it on a mixtape so it's no big deal.
Maybe it was a big deal for [Drake], because he has a couple records on the radio right now. I don't really know what the issue is, but like I said the record is on Olivia's mixtape Under The Radar. We never said it was on her album, the producers sent us the record asking Olivia to get on it.
We were under the impression that they would go back to Drake and get the proper authorization, which obviously they never did, because they leaked the record on Saturday.
This is not bullshit, because Drake shouted them out on the record. That's why we were under the impression that its all good. The first thing Drake said on the record was [acknowledging the producers with] "Sold out, I see you."
So why would we think anything differently?
[The] bottom line is we thought Drake was paid, which is why we felt he was authorized we let the sold out guys handle all that we sent the record back no label cleared him but that was never the intent of the song to be on Olivia's album."
Dang. That's messed up. Bottom line, make sure you dot your i's and cross your t's when using other people's music! I guess they thought it was cool as it's just a mixtape but if having Drake specifically increases the popularity of the product and Olivia's associated image (which I am sure is what they want) then its more than just a mixtape.

Yesterday Nas went to court and had to fork over some serious stacks of dough to Kelis. Read below:

According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Nas had to immediately fork over $47,249.42 in back child support and $40,454 in back spousal support.
The judge also ordered Nas to pay $10,000/month in spousal support until he pays off the $299,015.50 he owes Kelis.
Nas also has to pay 90% of Kelis' legal fees in the amount of $155,787.28.
Lastly, Nas has to pay $48,549.83 to cover Kelis' accounting expenses.
The lesson, as always -- when Laura Wasser reps your ex, settle as quickly as possible. Nas just learned that the hard way.

First lady Michelle Obama made an unannounced visit to disaster-stricken Haiti on Tuesday and said she was struck by the devastation inflicted by the January 12 earthquake on the poor Caribbean country.

Starting her first solo international trip as first lady, the 46-year-old wife of President Barack Obama made the stopover in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince en route to an April 13-15 visit to Mexico. She arrived with Jill Biden, the wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.
"It's powerful. The devastation is definitely powerful," Obama told reporters when asked for her first impressions after flying over the wrecked Haitian capital in a U.S. Army helicopter.
She was greeted at the presidential palace, which partly collapsed in the quake, by President Rene Preval and his wife.

I guess the last time Drake visited Jamaica made a great impression on him, cause he is currently in Kingston shooting a video for “Find Your Love,” the second single from his debut album Thank Me Later. The director is Anthony Mandler (Rihanna, Jay-Z) who shot the video for his last single "Over".
Drake and his entourage on his last trip to Jamaica where he recorded with Mavado.Both songs are featured on his album Thank Me Later which is scheduled for a June 15 release. Drake will fly back home to Canada to perform at this weekend’s 2010 JUNO Awards and will be kicking off his European tour in July.
Bounty Killer, whose real name is Rodney Pryce, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and threatening a complainant on Monday at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court, where he was also denied bail.
He is also facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful wounding after an altercation with an off-duty cop in New Kingston in 2007.
The artist was refused bail by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey on the grounds that it he committed the new offenses while out on bail.
Police say the 38-year-old DJ was arrested at his East Avenue home early Monday morning after a woman complained that he physically attacked her after she informed him that their three-year relationship was over.
While being processed at the Constant Spring Police Station, Pryce reportedly called the complainant and threatened her life in the presence of the police.
A police investigator told the court that associates of the DJ had been pressuring the woman to drop the charges against him.
Pryce is one of several artists whose visas were revoked by the United States embassy last week.
He goes to court Wednesday April 14th
