A senior aide to the mayor of London Boris Johnson has been forced to resign ` -after he made apparently disparaging remarks about people from the Caribbean. James McGrath was quoted as saying that if Afro-Caribbean immigrants didn't like the new mayor, they could leave.
It is the latest race controversy to hit Mr Johnson, who insisted that his now former adviser was not a racist. The mayor has himself been criticised in the past for calling black children "piccaninnies" and saying that black people had "water melon smiles".
